Codelco Norte
Codelco Norte was created in 2002, as a result of the merger of the Chuquicamata and Radomiro Tomic divisions. The Chuquicamata mining complex is located 1,650 kilometers north of Chile’s capital city, 2,870 meters above the sea level.
Codelco Norte includes two open pit mines, “Chuquicamata” and “Mina Sur”. Chuquicamata entered into operations in 1910.
Radomiro Tomic is located 20 kilometers north from Chuquicamata, at 3,000 meters above the sea level in the Andes Mountains.
It is an open pit mine with oxidized ore. Although it was discovered in the 50’s, its operations began only in 1995, after Codelco updated the pre-feasibility studies and introduced the necessary technology ensuring a profitable development.
Codelco Norte’s production is around 900,000 tons of electro-refined and electro-winned cathodes with 99,99% purity. It also produces around 20,000 metric tons of fine molybdenum.
Micomo is working with Codelco Norte Division in photonics AWG-Star and Wireless WIPAS Communications services, as well as environmental and geomechanic deformations information services.
One of Micomo’s services that we are delivering to North Division is AWG-Star Photonic Communications. The goal is to strengthen the backbone network of this division expanding their connectivity capabilities between, Calama, Chuquicamata and Radomiro Tomic through a high speed and bandwidth’s photonic link.
Together with photonics communications services, Micomo is providing WIPAS wireless communications services to the Development and Mining Resources Area where the have a real time monitoring system including trucks routing videos and vital signs from the extraction shovels. In parallel, Chuquicamata’s Smelter Area is contracting a video monitoring service for the critic locations related to production.
Additionally, Micomo is providing information services for Chuquicamata’s Maintenance Provisioning and Sustainability Area, in order to monitor and forecast meteorology and particulate dust in specific required locations.
Finally, Micomo is enabling geomechanic deformation monitoring service in K1 service tunnel and the exploration tunnel in Chuquicamata. With these information Codelco will have detailed information access to deformation phenomena and changes that happen in the area.
